CPCCBC5011 Manage Environmental Management Practices and Processes in Building and Construction - Assessment Task 1

For each task, assume that you are working on the commercial project “Alexander Street Apartment Complex”. You may access the project documentation via the Parker Brent Portal.

Alternatively – you may utilise your own workplace project and submit copies of plans and relevant documentation with your assessment.

Any information not supplied may be assumed.

Each task comes with a set of instructions. You are to follow and perform these instructions while being observed by the assessor and submit any required documentation.

Before starting this assessment, your assessor will also discuss with you these tasks as well as instructions and guidance for satisfactorily completing them. They will also organise the resources required for this assessment (listed below).

The goal of this assessment is to assess your practical knowledge and skills in:

§  Preparing an organisational environmental management plan

§  Managing environmental management plan implementation

§  Monitoring organisational legal obligations

§  Reviewing environmental management plan

You are required to:

§  Complete the tasks within the time allowed, as scheduled in-class roll

§  Review the instructions in each task

§  Prepare an organisational environmental management plan

§  Manage environmental management plan implementation

§  Monitor organisational legal obligations

§  Review environmental management plan

§  Perform the task according to the instructions provided

§  Complete and submit any required documentation

When completing your environmental management plan you will need to consult with various stakeholders in order to determine the following, which should be included in your EMP:

-          Evaluate the project and determine its impact on existing environmental planning obligations

-          Determine current environmental management performance

-          Analyse the project requirements in relation to environmental obligations

-          See senior management advice regarding implementation of the EMP

Your assessor will:

§  Divide the class into groups who will play the roles of relevant stakeholders for consultation

§  Organise resources required for you to complete this assessment.

§  Discuss with you the requirements of the task prior to the assessment.

§  Address your queries and concerns regarding this task.

After completing this task, submit the following to your assessor:

§  The completed environmental management plan

In doing so you will be required to:

-          Meet with staff and contractors to inform them of their obligations to comply with the EMP

-          Consult with stakeholders to monitor staff and contractor compliance with implementing the EMP

-          Contact local authorities and regulatory bodies where the plan requires ongoing external monitoring

-          Manage the effectiveness and accuracy of the environmental data gathering systems

-          Assess the recording and reporting systems effectiveness

In doing so you will need to:

§  Manage organisational feedback systems to assist with conformance of the plan.

§  Maintain contact with contractors and monitor their compliance with environmental management requirements.

§  Seek regular feedback concerning the operations of the environmental management plan to assist the organisation to meet its legal obligations.

§  Manage and evaluate the environmental management plan and track changing circumstances to maintain organisation compliance.

§  Manage and maintain legally required auditing practices to ensure probity and accountability towards legislative requirements.

You will be required to:

§  Implement the remediation response strategies necessary to assist with compliance.

§  Redraft your EMP to include improvement areas and address deficiencies found. Any amendments must be noted in red font

§  Submit your revised EMP for endorsement by senior management

§  Implement the amended EMP and communicate with staff and stakeholders regarding updated to the EMP
